Similar to the Black Panther version, the highlight of the latest AP x Marvel watch is the three-dimensional Spider-Man sculpture on the open-worked dial. Here we see Spider-Man swinging just above the tourbillon at 6 o’clock.

Back to basics: How Does a Tourbillon Work?

According to the brand, just the creation of the hand-crafted Spider-Man figurine took over 50 hours by a single artisan. “The silhouette and volume of the character are first cut from a block of white gold using a CNC machine. The Super Hero’s suit is then laser-engraved to obtain the differences in texture that give it its textile appearance.” The dial is also home to alternating black PVD-coated gold hour markers and Arabic numerals, which are then layered with white luminescence that glows blue in the dark.

The Royal Oak Concept Spider-Man Tourbillon (ref. 26631IO.OO.D002CA.01) features a 42mm titanium case, which measures 14.6mm thick and is water-resistant to 50 meters. As is customary for Royal Oak Concept watches, the case is a modern take on the original RO form, complete with striking facets and varying polished and blasted surfaces. The case is paired with a black ceramic bezel and a black ceramic crown.

Audemars Piguet will deliver the Royal Oak Concept “Spider-Man” Tourbillon with two interchangeable rubber straps: one in black with red accents and the other in black with gray accents. Both versions have titanium buckles. It’s worth noting that this is the first time a Royal Oak Concept includes an interchangeable strap system.

To power the 2023 Royal Oak Concept Spider-Man watch, Audemars Piguet opted for the new manufacture-made open-worked Caliber 2974, which is based on caliber 2948. The engineers at Audemars Piguet worked to make sure that the movement was pared down to only what was absolutely necessary to give as much space to the superhero as possible. The result is fantastic dial transparency that looks like Spider-Man is floating above a void.
