It’s estimated that Richard Mille only makes around 5,600 watches a year; a fraction of what some other big watch brands churn out annually. Despite that low number, the brand continuously adds new models to its catalog while phasing out others. Sometimes we get entirely new references while other times it’s new variations on already existing models. Let’s get a closer look at what new Richard Mille watches have been released in 2024.

Richard Mille has partnered with British supercar maker McLaren since 2016 to produce a series of RM x McLaren pieces. For 2024, a new one joins the lineup: the RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1, inspired by the automaker’s newest (and most powerful and fastest) W1 road car.

The RM 65-01 W1 watch includes a 43.84 x 49.94 x 16.19mm Carbon TPT case with a silhouette inspired by the car’s design features. For instance, the RM 65-01 McLaren’s indented “double” bezel draws cues from the W1’s compact and muscular body, high waistline, and inset gull-wing doors. That Carbon TPT bezel sits on top satin-finished and polished grade 5 titanium second bezel and according to Richard Mille, it took nine months of work and eight prototypes to get it right. Other design references to the car include the crown that mimics the splines on the W1’s drive shafts, the wheel rim-style chronograph pushers and rapid winding button, and titanium frames based on the lightweight seat cut-outs of McLaren supercars.

Powering the RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1 watch is the high-beat RMAC4 automatic chronograph movement operating at a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour (5 Hz). The high beat enables the split-seconds chronograph to record elapsed times to 1/10th of a second while the vertical clutch combined with a pair of six-column wheels ensures super smooth chronograph activation.

Limited to 500 examples, the new-for-2024 Richard Mille RM 65-01 McLaren will retail for $388,000.

RM 30-01 ATZ White Ceramic

In 2011, Richard Mille unveiled the RM 030, featuring a declutchable rotor system whereby the integrated clutch mechanism automatically disconnects the rotor from the barrel when the mainspring is fully wound to prevent overwinding. The RM 030 went on to become one of Richard Mille’s signature timepieces, available in various materials and colorways.

In 2023, Richard Mille presented the next evolution of the reference by introducing the RM 30-01, which retains the hallmark declutchable rotor system but also adds a handy function selector button at 2 o’clock. Pressing this button allows wearers to flip between winding (W), hand-setting (H), and date-adjustment (D) positions for the crown. There’s an indicator positioned at 3 o’clock on the dial.

While it was originally available in titanium and red gold, the newest RM 30-01 arrived in 2024, clad in ATZ white ceramic. With a hardness rating of 1,400 Vickers, ATZ (short for alumina toughened zirconia) is almost impossible to scratch. Wedged between the ATZ bezel and caseback is a grade 5 titanium mid-case; the tonneau-shaped case measures 42 x 49.9mm and is water-resistant to 50 meters.

Although Richard Mille boasts an impressive number of brand ambassadors, none are as famous as tennis legend Rafael Nadal. In fact, the partnership has spawned a fantastic range of Richard Mille Rafael Nadal watches — some of the most collectible from the brand.

In 2024, Richard Mille expanded the lineup with the RM 27-05 Tourbillon Rafael Nadal, breaking two records in the process. Not only is the RM 27-05 the world’s lightest tourbillon (weighing a mere 11.5 grams but it’s also the toughest, able to withstand up to 14,000 g-forces. Limited to 80 pieces, fashioned from Carbon TPT B.4, and featuring a flying tourbillon at 5 o’clock on the dial, the RM 27-05 carries a hefty price tag of $1,150,000.

RM 65-01 Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph Blue & Yellow Quartz TPT

Two new Richard Mille watches released in 2024

Introduced in 2020, the RM 65-01 Split-Seconds Chronograph is Richard Mille’s most (non-limited edition) complicated automatic watch, boasting 600 components. In 2024, the brand added two fresh colorways to the motorsports-inspired chronograph collection: a regular production pastel blue and a limited edition dark yellow, both crafted from Quartz TPT composite made of multiple layers of quartz fibers. It’s worth mentioning that Richard Mille as a brand is almost always inspired by motorsports; its tagline is “a racing machine on the wrist,” after all.

Powering the watches is the Caliber RMAC4 self-winding movement with hours and minutes at the center, running seconds at 6 o’clock, a 30-minute counter at 3 o’clock, and a 12-hour counter at 9 o’clock. Plus, there’s the date window at 11 and the function selector indicator at 4:30, which works in conjunction with the pusher embedded in the crown. Protruding from the case is a multitude of pushers, each indicating their purpose, including the “WINDING” pusher that one can push 125 times to rapidly recharge the mainspring.

Buying New Richard Mille Watches

Getting your hands on a new Richard Mille from an authorized dealer is no easy feat; the low production quantities coupled with the exceedingly high demand translates to a big gap in the market despite the sky-high prices of RM models. Many buyers have to rely on the secondary market to purchase RMs, and will often have to pay big premiums for the privilege of owning one.

Is it fair? No. But that’s the nature of the business when dealing with ultra-expensive, cutting-edge contemporary watches from popular brands.
