New Tudor Harrods Black Bay for 2024

Ever since Tudor’s first Black Bay dive watch debuted in 2012, the lineup has been steadily expanding. One particularly collectible model is the Tudor Black Bay Harrods Exclusive model, launched in 2017 with a green bezel insert and a numbered caseback. As the name suggests, it was only sold at the jeweler Harrods in London. And now there’s a new version: a limited-edition current-generation Black Bay 41mm dive watch with a green dial, a gold-capped bezel with a black insert, and the Harrods “H” logo on the seconds hand.

2024 Tudor Black Bay Harrods Exclusive

A Rolex Forums user named Rolexnabzy shared these images, along with a tip that it will be a 175-piece limited edition to celebrate Harrods’ 175th anniversary. Unofficial online leaks should always be taken with a grain of salt, but a few collectors chimed in confirming that they had already heard about it on the downlow from Harrods and there are already wrist shots online. Let’s sum up what we know:

Thoughts

The two-piece fabric strap (not a NATO) shown in the picture above appears to be a new style for Tudor. My immediate first impression is that I prefer this Tudor Black Bay “Harrods 2” on the green strap to the steel five-link bracelet. Some collectors find the gold-capped bezel and crown odd with an all-steel bracelet, but I don’t hate it. In the late 1950’s and early 1960’s, some two-tone Rolex models were offered from the factory on steel bracelets, so there is some historical precedent for it.

Note that I say the bezel is gold-capped because Tudor’s “gold” bezels are typically steel bezels capped with a 0.3mm layer of gold. The list price of this limited edition (reportedly £5,370) works out to a $2,000 premium over the regular burgundy or black versions, though, so it is possible this is a new solid gold Tudor bezel.

Will the Old Harrods Tudor Black Bay Be Discontinued?

Yes, presumably. In late 2023 the OG Harrods Black Bay model started being sold on the Harrods website, even to international customers–there’s no more need to actually travel to London for it, which likely indicates a strong desire to sell their remaining stock. Besides, the current (third) generation of Black Bay 41mm dive watches have Master Chronometer movements and T-Fit clasps, while the original Tudor Harrods Black Bay was a second-generation model.

As of October 2024, the 79230G is still available online to US customers for $4,137 including import duties, but don’t expect them to last long. Don’t buy one thinking it’s “rare,” though: even though it was a special edition, well over 10,000 were produced. This new model, however, has already been insta-sold-out with disappointed Harrods VIP’s to spare. It’s unusual that Tudor and Harrods are being so coy about a release that’s already out, but it’s possible they’re waiting for late former Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed’s rape allegations to fade out of the news cycle.
