IWC 2024 Watches and Wonders Releases
At Watches & Wonders 2024, IWC focused exclusively on new Portugieser models. The Portugieser is IWC’s collection of watches inspired by pocket watches made for two Portuguese merchants in the 1930s, characterized by round cases, Arabic numerals, slim hands, and large, expansive dials. Ranging from simple time-only models to a brand new complication, here are all the IWC 2024 Watches and Wonders releases, complete with photos, specs, and prices.

IWC Portugieser Eternal Calendar
The perpetual calendar has always been one of the most impressive complications in watchmaking, able to continue to correctly display the day, date, month, and year in perpetuity. Well at least until the year 2100, which is when the leap year will be skipped. The Gregorian calendar we follow isn’t straightforward; not only do months have different days, but we get an additional day in February every four years. However, leap years are sometimes disregarded: the rule is that if the year is divisible by 100 and not divisible by 400, the leap year is skipped. That skipped leap year rule has been the Achilles heel of perpetual calendar watches. IWC has now joined a tiny group of watchmakers that make secular perpetual calendars, which solves this problem.
IWC’s secular perpetual calendar released at Watches & Wonders 2024 is called the Portugieser Eternal Calendar. The watch includes a 400-year gear to accommodate the three scheduled leap years skips over the next four centuries. Is this a problem that any of us have to deal with during our lifetime — no, but it’s still a cool innovation! Doubling down on precision, IWC also developed a new reduction gear so that the Double Moon phase display will only deviate from the moon’s orbit once every 45 million years.

The brand new Caliber 52640 that powers the watch is housed inside a 44.4mm platinum case, which features a beautiful glass dial with an underside frosted and lacquered in white. While IWC hasn’t published the retail price for this (upon request only), I’d imagine it’ll be exceedingly expensive.

IWC Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night
Crafted in Armour Gold (the brand’s proprietary pink gold alloy), the Portugieser Hand-Wound Tourbillon Day & Night combines a flying minute tourbillon at 6 o’clock and a spherical day/night indicator at 9 o’clock that spins on its own axis.
The black lacquer dial, a colorway IWC calls Obsidian, is the perfect canvas for the duo of complications to shine. They’re accompanied by the characteristic Arabic numerals around the periphery and Dauphine hands at the center, all plated in matching gold.
The sapphire caseback shows us a view of the hand-wound Caliber 81925 that drives the complications and supplies the watch with 84 hours of power reserve.

IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44
IWC has been a leading pioneer in the perpetual calendar space, particularly with Kurt Klaus’s development in the 1980s that allowed all the indications to be adjusted via the winding crown. The first Portugieser with a perpetual calendar debuted in 2003 and now, for Watches & Wonders 2024, IWC has launched the redesigned Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44.
The new-gen Portugieser Perpetual Calendar 44 is available in four versions: two in 18k white gold with Horizon Blue and Dune dials and two in 18k Armor Gold with either an Obsidian or a Silver Moon dial.
The most notable update is the refreshed case construction with a much slimmer bezel that makes way for the box-glass sapphire crystal to have more prominence and the dial to look more expansive. The dials benefit from 15 layers of transparent lacquer. In true IWC fashion, the watch has big and bold proportions, measuring an imposing 44.4mm in diameter and 14.9mm thick.

IWC Portugieser Automatic 42 and Portugieser Automatic 40
For Watches & Wonders 2024, IWC has introduced redesigned Portugieser Automatic 40 and Portugieser Automatic 42 watches. These new-gen models include slimmer cases for a more elegant profile, box sapphire crystals for an expansive dial view, and a fresh batch of dial colors.
The smaller of the two sports a 40.4 mm by 12.4mm case, available in white gold or pink gold. The dial layout is simple with the pair of hour and minute hands at the center accompanied by the small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock.
The Portugieser Automatic 42 watch, on the other hand, includes a 42.4mm by 13mm case and a different dial layout. There’s a power reserve indicator at 3 o’clock, a running seconds at 9 o’clock, and a date window at 6 o’clock. IWC currently offers the latest Portugieser Automatic 42 in stainless steel, white gold, and pink gold. The lacquered dials follow a similar palette to the other 2024 IWC Watches & Wonders releases, which is to say Horizon Blue, Obsidian, Dune, and Silver Moon.

IWC Portugieser Chronograph
The last of the IWC 2024 Watches & Wonders releases is the IWC Portugieser Chronograph, now available in three new lacquer dial colors: Dune, Horizon Blue, and Obsidian.
The rest of the details remain the same, which is to say 41mm cases (13.1mm thick) cases, a pair of sub-dials laid out vertically, and the Caliber 69355 automatic movement inside the watch. The beige dial is paired with a steel case, the blue one with white gold, and the black dial is housed inside a pink gold case.

IWC’s lineup of new watches for WWG 2024 offers a solid mix of never-before-seen models, updated designs, and already-established fan favorites in fresh colors.
It illustrates the diversity of the Portugieser collection, which at its core is a simple design based on a vintage pocket watch. But it’s precisely that simple blueprint that allows the brand to experiment with various metals, colors, and complication combinations to expand it into a well-rounded assortment.
