What is the Price of a Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust?

Powerfunk Saturday, February 24th, 2024 7 min. read

At retail, Rolex Datejust prices range from $6,900 for the smallest no-frills steel Lady-Datejust to $16,750 for a two-tone Datejust 41 with a diamond-set dial. Some popular configurations of Rolex Datejust watches sell above retail on the secondary market, but that’s not the norm. Our in-depth Rolex Datejust price guide below compares retail and market prices for a variety of current, discontinued and vintage models.

The retail price of the least expensive men’s Datejust model is a steel Datejust 36 at $7,450. The cheapest Datejust 41 (steel bezel and steel Oyster bracelet) retails for $8,050. Although Rolex has been raising prices regularly in recent years, there is good news: discontinued Datejust references generally cost less than current-production ones.

Datejust Options

The exact Datejust configuration that you opt for will, of course, influence the cost of the watch. For instance, the larger the model, the more expensive it is. Jubilee bracelets are pricier than Oyster bracelets, and fluted bezels are costlier than smooth ones. Opting for the Jubilee bracelet adds $250 to the MSRP of a stainless Datejust. Choosing the white gold fluted bezel instead of steel increases the price by $1,250 for a Datejust 36 and $2,200 for a Datejust 41. Yellow gold is a bit cheaper than Everose gold. And while it goes without saying that diamond dials and diamond bezels come with hefty price tags, the premium for diamonds is much smaller in the secondhand market.

Rolex’s website contains a Rolex Datejust Configurator with all current Datejust models and configurations. If helpful, you can find your exact configuration there, and refer below for market pricing.

How Much Does a Rolex Datejust II Cost?

The Rolex Datejust II was introduced in 2009 as a larger Datejust option with a 41mm case. It was only in production until 2016 when it was replaced by the Datejust 41 model. While both these models include 41mm cases, the Datejust II is sportier in style thanks to fatter lugs, wider bezels, and larger hour markers. To emphasize the sportier style, Rolex paired the Datejust II exclusively with Oyster bracelets.

How Much Does a Rolex Datejust 36 Cost?

The Datejust 36 is the classic size option since it is the same size as the very first Datejust from 1945. In fact, 36mm was the largest Datejust size available up until 2009, which was when the larger Datejust II was released. While the Datejust 36 was traditionally marketed as a men’s watch, these days it’s very much a unisex watch enjoyed by both men and women.

The least expensive current collection Datejust 36 is the stainless steel ref. 126200, with a price of around $7,250.

About the Rolex Datejust

Arguably the most Rolex of Rolex watches, the Rolex Oyster Perpetual Datejust made its debut in 1945 as the world’s first chronometer wristwatch to indicate the date in a window (rather than with an arrow pointing to a number). It was also the first watch to be paired with Rolex’s now-famous five-link Jubilee bracelet. Since then, Rolex has expanded the Datejust collection to house a vast assortment of sizes, metals, bezels, dials, and bracelet styles.

The Datejust is the ultimate classic luxury watch; its style hasn’t changed much since its debut and as a result, the watch is immediately recognizable as a Rolex. Yet, despite its enduring design blueprint, the Datejust line is also immensely varied, with an abundance of styles and price points to choose from.
