Richard Mille RM028 Mexico Drives Watch
Despite being a relative newcomer in the world of horology, Richard Mille has proven that he certainly deserves a spot in the limelight with his technological innovations and flair for creating avant-garde timepieces. Instead of using traditional mechanics, Richard Mille watches utilize technology inspired by aeronautics and from the racing car industry. Also, instead of using conventional materials such as an 18K gold or stainless steel, Mille makes use of multiple strong metal alloys including carbon nanofiber, Aluminum-Lithium, and Phynox.
Like Cinco de Mayo, this RM 028 Mexico edition celebrates Mexican heritage and pride by incorporating green hands and inner bezel, red and white numerals, and a red crown protector; all colors from the Mexican flag. These, however, are not the only distinct aesthetic features to be found on this watch. The dial is completely skeletonized to show off the watch’s mechanics. It also has a transparent case-back to show off more of the watch’s impressive mechanical features which include adjustable rotor geometry and an impressive Caliber of RMAS7.
Continuing with the theme of being “unconventional”, this timepiece is made of unique materials. The RM 028’s case and bezel are made of black DLC titanium for optimum strength and durability while remaining light and easy to wear. An especially important feature since the watch is an automatic diver’s watch.
Diver’s watches are a special breed of timepiece because water resistance is of the utmost importance. The RM028 adheres to the diver’s watch ISO norm of water resistance to 300 meters/~1,000 feet. This timepiece is able to achieve such a high level of water resistance due to the construction of its three-part case held together with 22 torque screws, and the integration of the lugs into the case. Not only is it extremely water resistant, but its unidirectional bezel was designed to prevent accidental movement of the bezel while diving.
