What is the Price of a Patek Philippe Nautilus in 2024?
Patek Philippe Nautilus retail prices range from $32,520 for a steel ladies’ model to $588,700 for a diamond-saturated white gold one. However, the price of most Patek Philippe Nautilus watches on the secondary market is dramatically higher than the manufacturer’s suggested retail prices (MSRP). For instance, most used steel men’s Nautilus watches sell for about $70,000-$130,000, with the beloved ref. 5711 usually falling right in the middle of that range. Here’s our guide to Patek Philippe Nautilus prices both at retail and secondhand.

While a basic steel Nautilus will cost at least $70,000 from a grey market watch dealer, a solid gold one will be over $100,000. Complicated Nautilus watches will cost even more with market prices hovering around $115,000 for a steel Nautilus chronograph. The price of the vintage steel Nautilus reference (3700) that launched the collection touched $250,000 at the peak of the 2021-2022 watch hype but it currently trades for about half that. Meanwhile, the most affordable option for a men’s Nautilus is probably an older two-tone model like the 3800/1AJ, which can be found for under $40,000.

Whether you’re into vintage models, discontinued references, or current-production watches, here’s everything you need to know about Patek Philippe Nautilus price trends.
A brief history of the Patek Philippe Nautilus
The first Nautilus was designed by Gerald Genta and released in 1976. This was less than five years after Genta changed the luxury sports watch industry with his design of the Royal Oak for Audemars Piguet. The Nautilus was Patek’s first sports watch in its 137-year history, opening the brand up to a new demographic of watch enthusiasts.

What impacts the price of a Patek Philippe Nautilus?
Before we outline specific costs of Nautilus watches, it’s important to understand that certain details will have an impact on the cost. For instance, the age of the Nautilus will affect the price; some vintage Nautilus watches are especially pricey since they are sought-after by collectors.
Furthermore, design details such as sizes, movements, and complications will all factor into the cost of a Patek Philippe Nautilus. Even dial colors are valued differently in the market; while blue-black dials are the signature choice for many collectible Nautilus watches, other shades such as olive green and Tiffany blue are exceedingly expensive.
One of the most important things that will affect the price of a Nautilus is the type of material used, including if the watch is fitted with a metal integrated bracelet or leather strap. Here’s a quick rundown of Nautilus case metals and the letters used to denote them in a reference number:
Understanding the Nautilus Reference Number Structure
- /1 = Metal Bracelet
- A – Acier, French for Steel
- J – Jaune, French for Yellow as in Yellow Gold
- G – Gris, French for Gray, as in Gray Gold a.k.a. White Gold
- R – Rose, French for Pink, as in Pink Gold a.k.a. Rose Gold
- P – Platine, French for Platinum

How much does a Patek Philippe Nautilus Jumbo cost?
As we’ve mentioned, the very first model, the Nautilus ref. 3700, featured a 42mm case and was nicknamed the “Jumbo.” Patek Philippe produced the Nautilus 3700 “Jumbo” in several materials and discontinued the reference in 1990.
- Steel Nautilus 3700/1A (wider bracelet): about 3,500 examples produced from 1976 to 1982
- Steel Nautilus 3700/11A (narrow tapered bracelet): about 1,300 examples produced from 1982 to 1990
- Steel and Yellow Gold Nautilus 3700/1AJ (wider bracelet): about 600 examples produced
- Steel and Yellow Gold Nautilus 3700/11AJ (narrow tapered bracelet): about 300 examples produced
- Yellow Gold Nautilus 3700/1J and 3700/11J: about 1,500 examples produced, including diamond-set models
- White Gold Nautilus 3700/1G and 3700-11G: about 65 examples produced

The Nautilus Jumbo was absent from Patek Philippe’s catalog for well over a decade. In 2004, Patek released the Nautilus 3711/1G, which was a white gold version including its 42mm case and integrated bracelet. It was discontinued in 2006.
Released in 2006, the stainless steel Nautilus ref. 5711/1A was the successor of the original ref. 3700/1A and this new “Jumbo” became the flagship model of the entire Nautilus collection. While the 5711 retained much of the design blueprint of the 3700, there were some notable changes. For instance, the case size not only grew to 43mm (compared to the original 42mm) wide but it now featured a three-part case construction (compared to the monobloc case of the original.)
Furthermore, the 3700 did not have a running seconds hand while the 5711 does, which was due to the then-new in-house Caliber 324 SC movement that powered.
Patek expanded the Nautilus 5711 line over the years with new dial colors, case materials, and leather strap options.
- Steel Nautilus 5711/1A-001 (produced from 2006 to 2010), blue-black dial
- Steel Nautilus 5711/1A-010 (produced from 2010 to 2021), blue-black dial, upgraded bracelet
- Steel Nautilus 5711/1A-011 (introduced in 2012), white dial
- Steel Nautilus 5711/1A-014 (introduced in 2021), olive green dial
- Steel Nautilus 5711/1A-018 (introduced in 2021), Tiffany blue dial, limited to 170 pieces only
- Rose gold Nautilus 5711/1R-001 (introduced in 2015), brown dial
- Yellow gold Nautilus 5711J-001 white dial, leather strap
- White gold Nautilus 5711G-001 gray dial, leather strap
- Rose gold Nautilus 5711R-001, brown dial, leather strap
- Platinum Nautilus 5711/1P “40th Anniversary” limited edition
The reference 5711 was discontinued in 2022 and there is currently no Nautilus “Jumbo” in Patek’s current catalog — other than the full diamond pavé Nautilus 5719/10G.

How much does a Midsize Patek Philippe Nautilus cost?
In 1981, Patek Philippe introduced midsize versions of the Nautilus watch for those that found the 42mm size too big to wear. There were two references launched that year: the 37.5mm Nautilus 3800 with an automatic movement and the 33mm Nautilus 3900 with a quartz movement.

Patek offered the Nautilus 3800 series in plenty of variations including different metals and dial styles. For instance, the steel Nautilus 3800/1A dial choices included blue-black with baton markers, white with baton markers, charcoal grey with Arabic numerals, and black with applied Roman numerals.
- Steel Nautilus 3800/1A
- Steel and yellow gold Nautilus 3800/1AJ
- Yellow gold Nautilus 3800/1J
- White gold Nautilus 3800/1G
- Platinum 3800/1P
In 2006, Patek introduced a new generation midsize Nautilus, and the reference 3800 was replaced by the slightly bigger 38.4mm Nautilus ref. 5800/1A-001. Interestingly, only one variation of the short-lived Nautilus 5800 was ever made, in steel and with a blue dial, and it was discontinued only after a few years.

How much does a Complicated Patek Philippe Nautilus cost?
In 1998, Patek Philippe introduced the first complicated Nautilus model with the release of the Reference 3710, which had on its dial a winding zone indicator (power reserve indicator), also known as the IZR for Indication de Zone de Remontage in French. The Nautilus 3710 was exclusively available with a steel 42mm “Jumbo” size case, steel integrated bracelet, and black dial with Roman numerals.

The next complicated Nautilus to follow was the Reference 3712/1A, introduced in 2005 and only produced for one year (replaced by the 5712/1A in 2006). The Nautilus 3712 was distinct for its dial with off-centered indications including a power reserve display at 10:30, a date and moon subdial at 7, and a small second subdial at 4. Other complicated Nautilus watches soon followed, offering a wider variety of complications including chronographs, annual calendars, travel time chronographs, and perpetual calendars.
Here are the complicated Nautilus watch references, some of which are still in Patek’s current catalog:
