The Patek Philippe Beta 21 is a cult favorite among luxury watch enthusiasts, both as the brand’s first quartz wristwatch and for its incredible rarity. Few of these watches were made because only 6,000 Beta 21 movements were ever produced, and they were distributed among approximately 20 other Swiss watchmakers. The movement was developed in the 1960s as a collaborative effort between the brands to keep up with emerging electronic quartz technology. It blew the mechanical movements being produced at the time out of the water with an unheard-of accuracy of 5 seconds per month. The movement was also quite large and required a unique 43mm cushion-shaped case to house it.

Patek produced a few iterations of the Beta 21 ref. 3587, including those in white, yellow, or pink gold and with German-made bracelets with either “perforated” links like the model pictured in this listing, woven links, or larger Oyster-style links. Ref. 3587/2G is a white gold model featuring a matching perforated (aka “Swiss Cheese”) integrated bracelet and a blue dial.
